Entries are being accepted for Tnemec’s 2018 Tank of the Year competition, said Doug Hansen, director of sales, Water Tank Market. All tank styles are eligible and the deadline for nominating projects is Oct. 1, 2018.

“We look forward to another great year of recognizing the aesthetic, creative and innovative uses of Tnemec coatings on water storage tanks,” Hansen said. “It’s amazing how the contest has grown during the past decade. It has become a great way to showcase what’s going on in the water tank industry.”

Nominations can be submitted online. Once the deadline has passed, photographs of all nominated water tanks will be posted on the contest website – available for two weeks, Oct. 8-19 – where the general public can vote for the People’s Choice.

The People’s Choice will automatically be considered among 11 other committee-determined runners-up for the official Tank of the Year crown. A committee of water tank enthusiasts will judge these finalists based on artistic value, significance of the tank to the surrounding community and challenges encountered during the project. The overall winner of the Tank of the Year contest will be announced Friday, Oct. 26.

Last year’s winning tank was located in Destin, Fla. The award-winning design in Destin was created by a talented applicator and artist, Eric Henn, who worked with SUEZ Water Advanced Solutions to paint the beach-themed mural.

“To help keep this mural looking its best for years to come, an advanced fluoropolymer coating system, featuring Series 700 HydroFlon, was utilized to provide unprecedented color and gloss retention,” Hansen said.

Previous years’ winners include the Lake Villa, Ill., Providence at Painted Lakes pedestal tank in 2008; the Darree Fields Hydropillar in Dublin, Ohio, in 2009; the Newton, Kan. composite tank in 2010; the Hollywood, Fla., “Turtle” legged tank in 2011; Okaloosa County, Fla., elevated tank in 2012; a 500,000 gallon elevated tank in Mt. Vernon, Ill., in 2013; a composite elevated tank in Midland, Texas, in 2014; the Cocoa, Fla., American flag tank in 2015; and the Ann Arbor, Mich., pedestal tank on Manchester Road in 2016.

“The Tank of the Year competition has gained popularity in the industry since its inception in 2006,” Hansen said. “More and more fabricators, contractors and owners, take pride every year in being associated with projects nominated for the contest.”
